Example Sentences
- "I have a very dear friend whose mother made us pizzells, which is an Italian waffle cookie and delicious. I make them once in a while now and sometimes roll them, while hot, and fill them with whipping cream and strawberries."

- "Everyone applauded and sauntered up to the buffet of spaghetti, meatballs, Italian bread, salad and gelato, pizzells, biscotti and cannolli for dessert."
Etymology
Borrowed from Italian pizzella. The final vowel is probably dropped either due to southern Italian influence (as Neapolitan often reduces final vowels to a schwa), or due to anglicized pronunciation of the plural form pizzelle (many English words ending in -elle do not pronounce the last e, e.g. belle, gazelle, mademoiselle).
