Example Sentences

For example, we do not generally object to using them to check license plates against lists of stolen cars, for AMBER Alerts, or for toll collection, provided they are deployed and used fairly and subject to proper checks and balances, such as ensuring devices are not disproportionately deployed in low-income communities and communities of color, and that the “hot lists” they are run against are legitimate and up to date."
- "Don’t people realize that snatching your purse is just gonna end up in an AMBER alert?"
- "Most uses of the Emergency Broadcast System, such as tornado or flood warnings, are designed to help people look out for themselves. AMBER alerts, by contrast, try to get them to help someone else. It's a crowdsourced solution to a daunting problem that police often don't have the resources to solve."
- "An AMBER alert was issued for Jace Saunders on Monday morning after he was last seen Sunday afternoon"

- "Regardless of what kind of phone you use, ShakeAlert can still find its way to you if an earthquake of magnitude 5 or higher hits. For areas also likely to surpass a high shaking threshold, wireless carriers are equipped to automatically send warnings to every phone using a similar emergency system to Amber Alerts."
Etymology
Named for Amber Hagerman (1986–1996), a girl who was abducted and killed in Arlington, Texas. The upper-case spelling indicates a backronym: America's Missing: Broadcasting Emergency Response.
