Example Sentences
- "Please stop treating transwoman as innocent woobies who can never say problematic shit. Genuinely it's straight up fucking infantilizing and I'm sick of it. This is a fucking wretched sentiment and we needed to leave this performatively misandry in the 2010s with all the other awful habits of Woke 1.0. Please god get a grip."
- "The famous Natalie Wynn quotation "They don't want power, they want to endlessly critique power" is a pithy but accurate summation of what went wrong with Woke 1.0."
- "For those of us (nearly everyone) who recognize Woke 1.0 as a failure, what's something specific you're willing to say it got wrong? Here's mine: the practice of describing policies that were, like, Kerner Commission recommendations as "prison abolition" to get attention was dumb"
- "Woke 1.0 reached its peak in 2020 after the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police. The culture of isolation and chronic internet use brought on by COVID-19 made this moment inescapable."
Etymology
The term spread on X during early 2026 (although isolated usage dates back earlier). It gained viral popularity on August 10, 2026 after U.S. congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez quoted New York City Council member Chi Ossé during an interview with ABC News, who tweeted in May 2026 that "Woke 1 was crazyyyy". The spelling with 1.0 alludes to the software development industry, where 1.0 represents the first official release of a product.
